Foot Squad's 3rd - Tar Foot Once again, we set out with a particular bird in mind, but ended up with another! Team: Jennifer, Dave and Aldo TarFoot - What more to say... Crusty and hard, stuck under the wing and against the side too. Feathers had to be plucked. Foot is encrusted in tar with debris stuck on
Pateint is wheeled into theatre
The surgeon begins with the loose big clumps
It's mostly one foot
The patient is ...patient
Ow! This is gona hurt a bit...
But it is well worth it
Bit by bit, the dried tar is pulled off
This could've taken a long time to come off...
Not for this 2 month old though...
because it's coming off now
Even if left to come off with time...
...toxins will be seeping through the skin...
...and ingested as the bird trys to pick it off
A broken leg is not out of the question...
...if the bird sits long enough on a hot day...
...then cools a bit as shade moves over...
then if it suddenly is startled and tries...
...an emergency take off - Snap!
The surgeon picks off a few more pieces...
the foot is getting sore...
...so attention is moved to the clump on the wing...
and go back to the foot later
Ow! The two main clumps are off
That looks better
No flight feathers had to be removed but there' a clump on the tail
Back to that foot for a while - But not before a Pigeon Fly jumped ship
Bad move - the fly stumbled under the Doctor's thumb and was injured...
Good job that Pigeon Fly is in a hospital - A Doctor will fix it...NOT!
Final stretch - a rub down with mineral oil...
gets the residual tar off
It takes a bit of rubbing
And some more rubbing
Pink is beginning to show
A quick rub cleans up the "good" foot
Then a little clean up of the wing
And it's done
Looking good
No desert till the main course is gone
Hmmm Smelly but tasty
First stroll...
Something's really different...
Wow! Feels good!
